About the project

The addition of fast lanes to the Ayalon Highway (Highway 20) is one the largest megaprojects currently under construction in Israel. The bridges, which are designed by Gash Bridge, Tunnel and Building Engineering Ltd., are located over the Glilot Junction to the north of Tel Aviv where the Ayalon Highway intersects with Highway 5.

In order to span this busy, existing junction with little disturbance to the traffic and trains below, tall piers in combination with the Balanced Cantilever Method were utilized to construct the bridge deck. The spans for the bridge decks to be connected to the abutments are cast-in-place.

The first bridge is 740 meters long and comprises a total of nine spans, while the second has seven spans and is 640 meters in length. The longest span is 112 meters in length. The highest pier reaches a height of 23 meters. The height of the deck section varies from 5.6 meters above the piers to about 3 meters high at the center of the span.
