About the project

A pair of 3.5 kilometers-long heavy railway tunnels on the Jerusalem–Tel-Aviv express line, including connecting tunnels and temporary and final portals. The main tunnels were executed using TBM technology. The connecting tunnels were excavated using NATM conventional mining, and cut & cover was used for the portals.
The project involved the creation of wide-diameter tunneling in soft bedrock under high water pressure and included development and planning for cut & cover tunnel sections using tunneling machines to reduce time to execution. GASH was the project’s lead planner on behalf of the contractor.
