Sectional balanced cantilever bridge in Monrovia, capital of Liberia, over the 200 meter-wide Mesurado River. The project was done at the request of the World Bank and Liberian government.
At 240 meters-long, the bridge spans an area of 3,150 m2 and its main span measures 100 meters. Construction included central deep water abutments, one utilizing an artificial island and the other utilizing piling walls and water pumping.
The logistically complex project required above water transportation of concrete for constructing the abutments and carriageway. A concrete factory and an elaborate pump system were established to enable this feat.
