Monrovia, Liberia - Vai Town Segmental Bridge

Structure Type: Segmental cast-in-place bridge.
Client: World Bank & SIU (Special Implementation Unit of Liberia)
A segmental balanced cantilever bridge was designed to cross over the Mesurado River in center of Monrovia, capital city of Liberia. Estimation of the cost of this project is about 15 Million Dollar. The total length of the bridge is 240 meters divided to 3 spans where the central span is 100 meters and the outer spans are 70 meters each.

Foundation is made of set of driven piles cast in cofferdam method at the bottom of the Messurado River.

The superstructure is consisted of cast in place segmental girders to be constructed in the balanced cantilever method. Girders height is varying from 2.5 m at the center of span to 5.6 m above piers.
As to January 2009, the bridge is under construction.
